English Communication Program - Basic Level Series

Do you ever feel hesitant to speak or write in English? Are you afraid to be laugh at when using English? Do you always wonder whether you pronounce the words correctly; use the right words for the right situation? Do you sometimes feel unsure of your grammar or vocabulary?

If you answer 'yes' to any of the questions, you have found the right place to improve your English.

Our 'English Communication Program' is tailored to help individuals develop and improve their English Language skills for personal, social, academic or vocational communication. The course syllabi are designed to hone your spoken and written communication skills. They are covered in four major skills group namely, speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Besides increasing the participants' self-confidence in speaking and writing in English, the program is striving to instill the love for the language among the participants.

The participants will be taught by qualified trainers from a well established language centre, Pusat Bahasa Wawasan Minda Cemerlang. A graded certificate of achievement will be awarded upon successful completion of each level.

The program is divided into three levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. It is suitable for:

•  civil servants
•  school leavers
•  graduates
•  working adults
•  expatriates
•  entrepreneurs

A. Speaking Syllabus

1. Giving Information
- Asking for and giving information.
- Asking for and answering questions for confirmation, information and identification.
- Describing people, places, things, situations and conditions.
- Explaining daily procedures and routines.

2. Expressing thoughts and feelings
- Expressing agreement/disagreement.
- Expressing views and feelings.
- Stating knowledge or ignorance of something/someone.
- Stating and asking about ability/inability to do something.
- Seeking, granting/denying permission.
- Expressing wishes and preference.
- Expressing likes and dislikes.

3. Social Contact
- Greeting people and responding to greeting and expressing thanks.
- Addressing another person.
- Introducing oneself, colleagues, superiors, family and friends.
- Opening and closing a conversation.
- Asking someone to clarify something.
- Grammar skills: Parts of Speech and Tenses (Basic Tenses, Parts of Speech and Active Verbs)

4.Speaking Topics
-  include Self and family, Everyday life, Education, skills and work experience
   Entertainment and sports and many more.

B. Listening Syllabus

Participants will learn how to:

- Follow short conversations in everyday situations on various topics and learn the gist context and relationship between speakers.
-Understand simple questions, statements, accounts, narratives spoken carefully and slowly      extract key information/main ideas in speeches, new commentaries, explanations and conversations.

1. Recognizing Emotions
- Recognizing feelings and attitudes expressed through stress and intonation

2. Everyday Grammar
- Understand key grammatical forms used in very common everyday familiar contexts.

C. Reading Syllabus

Participant will learn to:
- Understand short narratives and descriptions, and simple explanations.
- Recognise the purposes of short texts where the purpose is clear.
- Locate specific information in short texts.
- Understand view points if made clearly and simply.

1. Everyday life and social interaction
- Understand words and phrases in simple common texts found in everyday life.
- Understand short simple phrases and grammatical structures.
- Understand the meanings conveyed in simple sentences.

D. Writing Syllabus

Participant will learn to:
- Write to communicate simple information to the intended reader.
- Fill in a form with personal details.
- Copy a text accurately and correcting basic punctuating and capitalization errors.
- Compose simple sentences to communicate basic information about information or knowledge.
- Write a short email, memo, letter, postcard and message using simple phrases and               sentences communicate Ideas and basic information.
- Write simple descriptions, accounts and routines.
- Express likes, dislikes and preferences in relation to familiar topics.
